Authorities are continuing an investigation into the death of a Wichita man who was shot and killed by police Saturday night. The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave. KMUW’s Abigail Wilson has more…

In a written statement outlining the shooting, Wichita Police Chief Nelson Mosley says there are still several questions that need to be answered.

According to the release, the shooting took place after two officers responded to a call that a man armed with a knife and under the influence of alcohol was attempting to get inside a home.

Upon arrival at the Oliver Street address, the officers said they found 23-year-old John Paul Quintero and his father inside an SUV.

The report says Quintero exchanged words with the two officers. During that exchange one officer used a taser, which was ineffective; the second officer said she saw Quintero reach for his waistband. The report then says she fired two shots with her patrol rifle hitting him in the midsection.

Quintero was taken to Wesley Medical Center where he later died.

The Wichita Police Department declined to comment further on the investigation.
