The Wichita Children’s Mercy Hospital will be closed until Monday due to a power outage.

Officials with Children’s Mercy Hospital Kansas City say its Wichita location lost power on Thursday. The hospital shares facilities with Wesley Medical Center on Hillside, which also lost power for a short time after an electrical malfunction caused a small explosion. No one was hurt in the incident.

“We serve about 1,500 families each year out of that clinic,” says Lisa Augustine, a spokesperson for the Children's Mercy Kansas City. “We have everything from pediatric cardiologists, endocrinologists, nephrologists—several clinics offered in our Wichita location.”

Patients for the hospital are asked to call 816-234-3000 to either reschedule appointments or be directed to another medical clinic in the area.

The outage also shut down some elevators at the Wesley Medical Arts Tower before a backup generator restored power.
