Wichita Conference Will Offer Support, Networking Opportunities To Young Men

Rise Up For Youth

A conference supporting young males Saturday will take place at the Boys & Girls Club in Wichita.

The Developing Every Man's Opportunity (DEMO) conference will offer workshops to educate and challenge boys to make positive decisions concerning their futures. David Gilkey, program director for Rise Up For Youth, says the conference will be an opportunity for male role models to give back.

"Give what our grandfathers and fathers gave us and pass it down, because most of these young men I mentor don’t have fathers," Gilkey says. "And I want this opportunity to be where fathers and sons can come together, mentorship can be established, even job opportunities for some of these young men."

Gilkey says the goal is to give the boys a safe environment to talk about challenges they may be facing and to network. Businessmen and other leaders will take part in the conference, and more than 100 boys are expected to be in attendance.
