City To Begin Taking Applications For Section 8 Housing Program

wichita.gov

Next week, the City of Wichita will begin accepting applications from income-eligible households seeking rental assistance. This marks the first time in more than a year that new applications will be accepted.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program will take applications starting Monday, Feb. 22. The program provides rental assistance for low-income residents and, thanks to a $1 million funding increase from the federal government, it will be able to serve 500 additional households this year.

The application process is online. Once a request is complete, applicants' names are added to a waiting list.

John Hall, director of Housing and Community Services, says staff will begin contacting families from the waiting list in March and continue to do so as long as vouchers are available. There is no fee to apply for the department’s housing programs.

The application can be found at one of the following links:

· https://wichita.apply4housing.com

· www.wichita.gov/government/departments/housing

If applicants do not have access to a computer, people can apply and receive staff assistance at one of the following locations:

· Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center 2755 E. 19th St. N;

· Colvin Neighborhood Resource Center 2820 S. Roosevelt;

· Evergreen Neighborhood Resource Center 2700 N. Woodland; and

· Wichita Public Libraries (a library card is required to use library computers)

Those with disabilities requiring computer assistance should submit their full name, address, phone number and/or email address for contact purposes. The can be hand-delivered or mailed to Housing and Community Services Department, 332 N. Riverview, Wichita, KS 67203, or emailed to Communityhousing@wichita.gov.
