CityArts hosts a First Friday Reception from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, May 3 for three new exhibits, which will be on view through June 2, 2024: Textura: A two -person exhibition of David and Susan Harmon, Companions in Fire by Aaron Jasso and Kelly Taylor and Patterncity by Ed Catt.
Our main gallery will be featuring contemporary portrait oil paintings in a new exhibition titled "Talk To Me" by Rachel Curtis!

RACHEL CURTIS - has a keen eye for detail and a love for symbolism. Through her contemporary portrait paintings, Curtis skillfully renders domestic environments with authenticity, curiosity, and emotion. Her creations delve into the intricate evolution of relationships, unveiling the beauty hidden within daily life and human experiences.
Having honed her skills at Wichita State University, Kansas State University, and Bethany College, Curtis holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing from K-State (2007) and a Master of Fine Arts from WSU (2013). Curtis is currently a dedicated full-time faculty member at Butler Community College in the visual arts department.
Gallery 12's Featured Artist is Printmaker/Painter Doug Billings. His exhibition is focused on the earliest works of art so far discovered by archeologists and the relationships these first artists had with their environment. The exhibition includes: acrylic paintings; stone & aluminum plate lithographs; copper & solar plate etchings and linoleum relief prints.
Exhibiting also for the month of May is local sculpture artist Nancy Bole.
The opening reception is on the First Friday May 3rd from 6 to 9 pm.
The exhibition will be on display till June 1st. Normal Gallery 12 hours are Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 6 pm.
The gallery is free and open to the public and is exhibiting the artworks of (23) 2-D member artists; (12) 2-D leasing artists and (15) 3-D consignment artists.
Spend a spring evening enjoying art in nature! Join docent DJ Spaeth for a tour of the outdoor sculptures featured in the beautifully landscaped Art Garden.

"Join us for a Cup of Kindness." This is the theme of the 93rd Annual Olde English Tea to be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at St. James Episcopal Church (3750 E. Douglas Avenue, Wichita, 67208). Since its inception in 1921, the Olde English Tea, has delighted guests with a beautiful array of silver platters laden with homemade tea sweets and dainty sandwiches. This year’s tea will also feature a fashion show by the Assistance League, music, an English Marketplace with baked goods, flowers/plants, vintage designer handbags, and more! Proceeds from the Olde English Tea will benefit Episcopal Social Services, St. James’s Refugee Outreach Program, and St. James Church.
There will be two seatings. The morning seating is from 10am-Noon and the afternoon seating is from 1pm-3pm.
Tickets are $30 per person for ages 13 and up and $10 per person for those between the ages of 5-12. No children under 5, please.

Local artists Jay Lechuga and Sarah Moyse will be reading "Cinco de Mayo" by Emma Carsson Berne. Afterward, families will create a Cinco De Mayo themed project with the artists.
Jay Lechuga (she/they) was born in Anaheim, California to two hardworking immigrant parents. A strong work ethic helped her when she moved to the Midwest at ten years old and found herself one of the few Latin Americans in her predominantly White community. Jay solidified her passion for the arts and need to create art of her culture, wanting to bring a slice of her experiences to her peers and elevate the small Latin American community of the Joplin, Missouri area.Jay studied and gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Printmaking at Missouri Southern State University in 2019. They moved to Wichita shortly after to attend Wichita State University, studying under instructor Marco Hernandez, and earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2022. Jay has been in several local exhibitions as well as national juried exhibitions such as Positive/Negative, ARTistas, Latinos Unidos, and ArteLatinX.
Sarah Myose is an artist, creative, and graphic designer living in Wichita, KS. She graduated from Wichita State University with an Honors Baccalaureate degree in Studio Art and Sociology. Sarah served as a Harvester Arts Community Fellow, during which she created an arts-based community organization called BE SEEN. She has exhibited artwork at local galleries and led the creation of several murals and art installations throughout Wichita, including the Front Porch Project in front of the Old Mill Tasty Shop. In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors, watching Tiktoks, and trying out new recipes.

Hippie Sabotage is a Sacramento born, LA based production duo made up of brothers Kevin & Jeff Saurer. The duo got their start as bedroom producers in middle school after obsessing over the music used in their favorite skateboarding videos. In 2014, Hippie Sabotage skyrocketed to #1 on Billboard’s Next Big Sound chart after releasing their remix of Tove Lo’s ‘Habits (Stay High)’ (752M YouTube Plays) and have since surpassed over 1 Billion Spotify Streams. In 2019, Hippie Sabotage performed at festivals like Austin City Limits, Made In America, Day N Vegas, Bumbershoot, Electric Forest, Corona Capital, Splash House and more. Their sound is rooted in electronic music, but it takes cues from hip hop, psych rock, and chill wave, all pulled together by Jeff’s killer guitar skills and Kevin’s explosive personality on stage.

Come Celebrate emerging writers as they read fresh work for a live audience. Writers will be reading from a variety of genres, including poetry, fiction, screenplays, and memoir.
