Cinco de Mayo Storytime Art Spark!

Join us for a bilingual Spanish and English Story Time at CityArts! Storytime Art Spark is FREE, from 10:30-11:30am on Saturday, May 4th.

Local artists Jay Lechuga and Sarah Moyse will be reading "Cinco de Mayo" by Emma Carsson Berne. Afterward, families will create a Cinco De Mayo themed project with the artists.

Jay Lechuga (she/they) was born in Anaheim, California to two hardworking immigrant parents. A strong work ethic helped her when she moved to the Midwest at ten years old and found herself one of the few Latin Americans in her predominantly White community. Jay solidified her passion for the arts and need to create art of her culture, wanting to bring a slice of her experiences to her peers and elevate the small Latin American community of the Joplin, Missouri area.
Jay studied and gained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Printmaking at Missouri Southern State University in 2019. They moved to Wichita shortly after to attend Wichita State University, studying under instructor Marco Hernandez, and earning a Master of Fine Arts in 2022. Jay has been in several local exhibitions as well as national juried exhibitions such as Positive/Negative, ARTistas, Latinos Unidos, and ArteLatinX.

Sarah Myose is an artist, creative, and graphic designer living in Wichita, KS. She graduated from Wichita State University with an Honors Baccalaureate degree in Studio Art and Sociology. Sarah served as a Harvester Arts Community Fellow, during which she created an arts-based community organization called BE SEEN. She has exhibited artwork at local galleries and led the creation of several murals and art installations throughout Wichita, including the Front Porch Project in front of the Old Mill Tasty Shop. In her free time, Sarah enjoys spending time outdoors, watching Tiktoks, and trying out new recipes.
