Kansas business owners will have a chance to promote trade in Brazil this summer.

The trade mission to Brazil is supported by the Kansas Department of Agriculture and the Kansas Department of Commerce. Businesses throughout the state who have an interest in exporting products to Brazil will get a chance to increase market opportunities.

Heather Landsdowne with the agriculture department says Brazil was the 7th largest export market for Kansas last year.

"With $344 million in exports, it traditionally is one of our top 10 trading partners in the agricultural industry," Landsdowne says. "We've seen exports to Brazil increased. It's a great opportunity to grow [the] Kansas economy by increasing trade to that country."

Top categories for exports to Brazil include aircraft and aircraft parts, beverages, dairy, meat, pharmaceutical products and wheat. ??The trade mission is funded in part by the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant. Selected participants will be eligible for travel stipends.

Participants of this trade mission will promote the use of Kansas products. All interested Kansas small businesses are encouraged to apply.

For more information on the trade mission to Brazil, including instructions on how to apply and application requirements, go to agriculture.ks.gov/international, or contact Suzanne Ryan-Numrich at suzanne.numrich@ks.gov or 785-564-6704.

Travel dates are Aug. 7-11, 2017. Deadline for submitting applications for consideration is June 16.
