Former Sedgwick County GOP Leader Dalton Glasscock Selected To Fill Commission Vacancy

Former Sedgwick County Republican Party Chairman Dalton Glasscock will serve on the county commission for the remainder of the current term. He was selected to replace former Commission Michael O'Donnell, who resigned.

Sedgwick County Republicans selected their former leader to serve the remainder of the term for the 2nd District seat on the county commission.

Former GOP chairman Dalton Glasscock fills the vacancy left by Michael O’Donnell. Glasscock earned a majority of votes over three nominees during a special convention held Monday evening.

O’Donnell resigned last month rather than face ouster proceedings for his alleged role in a false attack ad and attempted cover-up during the 2019 mayoral race. O’Donnell and two other elected officials — outgoing state Rep. Michael Capps and Wichita City Council member James Clendenin — were heard on a leaked recording discussing blaming Glasscock for the ad; all three deny involvement.

Glasscock is a small business executive and has served on several city/county advisory boards. He served as chair of the local GOP for the past two years.

Gov. Laura Kelly needs to officially appoint Glasscock to the role before he begins work on the county commission.

Glasscock will serve until the terms ends on Jan. 11, when Democrat Sarah Lopez takes office. She defeated O’Donnell in the November general election.
