Cargill released more details at the weekly mayor's briefing Thursday about its new downtown building, which will serve as the company's North American protein headquarters. They're currently located at 151 N. Main in downtown Wichita.
The $60 million facility will be located at the site of the current Wichita Eagle building at Douglas and Rock Island in Old Town. The Eagle has not announced where it will relocate. Cargill's new four-story, roughly 180,000-square-foot building will accommodate more than 800 employees and include an on-site parking garage.
Cargill announced earlier this year that it would keep its new headquarters in Wichita. In return for a 15-year commitment, the city and the State of Kansas are offering Cargill millions of dollars in tax breaks, as well as other incentives.
Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell said Cargill is making an investment in Wichita with its new headquarters.
"We think if we do this right, that we will have something we can be proud of for decades to come, and something that will be incredibly beneficial," Longwell said.
The new building is expected to be ready for move-in by summer 2018.
