FHWA And FTA To Hold Public Transportation Meeting

Sean Sandefur

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will participate in a public meeting on Monday, June 8, to review the metropolitan transportation planning process for the Wichita area. KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports…

The meeting gives both agencies the opportunity to jointly review the metropolitan transportation planning process for the Wichita Metropolitan Area. It's also designed to allow Wichitans to give their ideas and feedback.

The decisions made by the agencies will then ultimately determine how a substantial share of federal funding is spent nationwide and most specifically in the Wichita metro area.

The local planning organization (WAMPO) must prioritize the regional needs, based on local feedback, and determine the best and most economical solution for our area.

WAMPO is the Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) for the Wichita metropolitan region.

The region consists of 22 cities and portions of three counties in south central Kansas. MPOs are federally required regional policy bodies in urbanized areas with populations over 50,000.

The meeting will be held at the Central Branch Library in downtown Wichita on Monday, June 8th at 4:30.

For more information about WAMPO, MOVE 2040, or how to get involved in the decision making process please call 316-268-4315.
