Second Round Of Winter Weather Brings More Cancellations And Delays
Monday's snow storm is winding down and streets are being cleared in Wichita.
Wichita city government offices are open, and there will be the regularly scheduled City Council meeting. Municipal courts will be open Tuesday for business. All polling places for the primary municipal election Tuesday are open, except for the Independent Living Center.
It's another day off from school for most students. Most K-12 schools are closed Tuesday.
All library preschool activities scheduled for Tuesday morning are canceled.
City Arts have canceled classes for Tuesday.
Even After Heavy Snow, Drought Still A Problem In Kansas
The latest winter storm is easing dry conditions in Kansas, but so far hasn't ended the drought. A climatologist says a foot of snow is equal to about an inch of water, which means we'd need almost four feet of snow just to erase precipitation deficits since October.
Brownback's Reading Plan Gets Hearing
Gov. Sam Brownback's proposal requiring school districts to hold back Kansas third-graders who aren't proficient in reading is getting mixed reviews in the Legislature.
Bill Would Allow Concealed Carry In Public Buildings
A bill in the Kansas House would require public buildings to be open to people legally carrying concealed weapons, unless the building has adequate security measures. Now, concealed weapons can be barred from public buildings by posting a sign at the door.
