Sending Out An SOS From The Sensational S.O.S. Band

Sunday, March 21

This week on Soulsations, hear R&B classics from The Commodores, The BlackByrds and Patrice Rushen. We’ll share a new tune by gospel trailblazers Jonathan McReynolds and Mali Music, who just picked up a Grammy. Also, we’re sending out an SOS from the sensational S.O.S. Band; legendary lead singer Mary Davis is leaving the group — with the band’s full support — to continue recovering from an illness. We’ll share signature sounds from the “Groovin” band and pass along how you can audition to become their new lead vocalist. Plus, this week’s DoubleTake features the 1977 ballad “How Deep is Your Love” by the legendary Bee Gees, and an updated version by PJ Morton.

Carla Eckels is Director of Organizational Culture at KMUW. She produces and hosts the R&B and gospel show Soulsations and brings stories of race and culture to The Range with the monthly segment In the Mix. Carla was inducted into The Kansas African American Museum's Trailblazers Hall of Fame in 2020 for her work in broadcast/journalism.
