Johnny And Shemekia Copeland And Texas Blues

Friday, April 17 and Sunday, April 19

This time at the Crossroads we focus on the Texas blues connections of April featured artist Johnny Copeland. We’ll hear Copeland himself as a special guest with Randy Weston and on the Grammy-winning album, Showdown, that he did with Albert Collins and Robert Cray. We’ll also hear Texas artists T-Bone Walker (from a new reissue) and Stevie Ray Vaughan in hour one, and a Texas blues special in hour two.

Also on the show music from Shemekia Copeland (Johnny’s daughter and our other featured artist this month), new releases from Al Basile and the Ben Rice/RB Stone Cigar Guitar Box project, and gospel-inspired sounds from the Blind Boys of Alabama and Robert Randolph & the Family Band.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
