These 13 is the new collaboration from Jimbo Mathus and Andrew Bird and marks the pair’s first sustained collaboration since Bedlam Ballroom, the 2000 album from Squirrel Nut Zippers, the swing and jazz band that Mathus co-founded in 1993 and which had a major hit in 1996 with the tune “Hell.” We’ll hear music from These 13 as well as selections from Obviously, the latest by Lake Street Dive.

Japan's 'Quiet Life'

Tuesday, March 23

First released in 1979, Quiet Life was the third album from the British art pop band Japan. The record has just been reissued in deluxe form and we’ll hear some selections from it on this episode of the show as well as music from The Weather Station, John Hiatt with Jerry Douglas and from featured artists Lake Street Dive and Valerie June.

Steve Almas's 'Everywhere You've Been'

Steve Almaas made a name for himself in the Minneapolis music scene of the 1970s with the punk band Suicide Commandos. He later formed the New York City-based country rock band Beat Rodeo and is back with the country and Americana-inflected LP Everywhere You’ve Been. We’ll hear music from that release on this episodes as well as selections from Kingdom In My Mind, the latest from The Wood Brothers.

We’ll hear music from The Moon and Stars: Prescriptions For Dreamers, the latest from Valerie June as well as music from Petra Haden’s Petra Haden Sings: The Who Sell Out, her 2005 a capella cover of the The Who’s classic 1967 release The Who Sell Out.

Peter Frampton's 'Frampton Forgets The Words'

  Saturday, March 27

We’ll hear music from Peter Frampton’s upcoming release, Peter Frampton Forgets The Words, featuring instrumental versions of songs by Radiohead, George Harrison and others. Plus: New music from Guided By Voices, Valerie June, The Hold Steady, and Mogwai.

Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency.
