The Libertarian candidate in the race for the 4th Congressional District is ramping up his campaign now that the special election is less than a month away.
Chris Rockhold says his interest in politics and the Libertarian Party began in high school.
He says his message is safeguarding personal liberty and working toward an efficient government.
Rockhold has been attending candidate forums lately and plans to increase his public activities in the days leading up to the April 11 special election.
"In this election particularly, it’s a special election—turnout is going to be historically low," Rockhold says. "I think I actually have a real shot here. I think the conditions are ripe here for a third party to win an election."
Rockhold is an instructor at FlightSafety International in Wichita. He is a former pilot and has been involved in aviation for more than 20 years.
This is Rockhold’s second attempt at public office. He ran for the Washington state Legislature in 2014 and was defeated in the primary.
Republican candidate Ron Estes and Democratic candidate James Thompson are also on the ballot for the 4th District seat.
Former Congressman Mike Pompeo resigned from the 4th District seat when he became the CIA director.
