Sherbet: Are You Saying It Wrong?
This is You're Saying It Wrong, the podcast! If you listened past the credits of episodes 1 and 2, you know that Fletcher is good about tagging on "one more thing" to each podcast. Episode 3 is no exception.
Before we get started, here's a reminder of how the podcast works: For each episode, Kathy Petras and Ross Petras—our sister-and-brother team of language experts—send Fletcher a word. He's not allowed to look up the pronunciation, he just has to call the Petrases and tell them how he thinks he's supposed to say it. The conversation is recorded and we all get to listen in!
The word for this episode is sherbet.
But we also learn about variant spellings and epenthesis in words like in decathlon, rigmarole, speedometer and more (like hamster, empty, thunder, and mischievous).
You're Saying It Wrong was recorded and produced at KMUW studios. Thanks to our language experts, Kathy Petras and Ross Petras. You can follow them at their website: kandrpetras.com
The show was produced by Fletcher Powell, with help from Beth Golay and Lu Anne Stephens. Episode art was produced by Jordan Kirtley. KMUW Engineers are Mark Statzer and Torin Andersen. You're Saying It Wrong the book was published by Ten Speed Press, an imprint of Penguin Random House, as was their new book, That Doesn't Mean What You Think It Means. You can find the books at your local independent bookstore.
