Southern Blood, American Dreams And Hi Rhythm

Monday, September 11

Southern Blood is the latest album from Gregg Allman, the singer and former Allman Brothers Band vocalist had completed the record before his death earlier in 2017. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of the show plus selections from Robert Cray and Hi Rhythm’s collaborative LP, also released this year.

Tuesday, September 12

American Dream is LCD Soundsystem’s first album since 2010 and is already being hailed as one of the best of 2017. Listen for music from that release plus selections from Damien Jurado’s 2008 effort, Caught in the Trees.

Wednesday, September 13

Formed in 1969, British band UFO has been through numerous incarnations throughout its career and worked in varying styles, including hard rock and blues. The veteran act has just issued its first-ever covers collection. Titled The Salentino Cuts, the record features songs written by a diverse range of artists, including Mad Season, John Mellencamp, Bill Withers and ZZ Top. We’ll hear music from that release on this episode plus songs from Robin Trower’s classic Bridge of Sighs album.

Thursday, September 14

Every Country’s Sun is the latest from Scottish post-rock group Mogwai. The group continues its musically adventurous approach on this new album with pieces that summon images of dying androids and ancient churches. We’ll also hear selections from The Cure’s 1982 album, Pornography.

Friday, September 15

We celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month with selections from Los Lobos, Grateful Dead and Gaby Moreno.

Saturday, September 16 

Painted Ruins is the first album in five years from the Brooklyn-based Grizzly Bear. We’ll hear songs from that recording plus music from The National.
