In 1973 Jerry Garcia and Merl Saunders played a number of shows together in the San Francisco Bay Area. A handful of those dates are included in a new vinyl boxed set titled Keystone Companions: The Complete 1973 Fantasy Recordings, which finds the friends and their band working through a wide array of classic material from the worlds of R&B, jazz and folk. We’ll hear selections from that collection on this episode of the show as well as material from Virgin Beauty the 1988 LP by jazz great Ornette Coleman & Prime Time featuring Jerry Garcia.
