From Global Bass To Outer Space, We Got It All

Tuesday, February 23 

Prins Thomas is a Norwegian-based producer notable for his so-called “space disco” sound. Influenced by electronic artists of the past such as Germany’s Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream as well as disco producer Giorgio Moroder and minimalist composer Terry Riley, Prins Thomas has just released Principe Del Norte, a record that covers all of that ground and more in the space of 100 minutes. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of the show as well as selections from the new mini album by global bass artist, Lafawndah, titled Tan

Inspired by the music and eccentricities of legendary musician Sun Ra, Texas-based Golden Dawn Arkestra has just released the delightfully strange LP Stargazer. We’ll hear selections from that recording as well as from several Sun Ra releases from across his wide-reaching career. 

Thursday, February 25

We remember Beatle George Harrison with a birthday salute, including selections from his work with the Fab Four, Travelling Wilburys and from the newly-released George Fest set featuring contributions from Brian Wilson, Norah Jones, and members of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Spoon. 

Friday, February 26

Considered one of the best underground bands of the 1980s, The Replacements never broke into the mainstream but did inspire a wide range of bands in its wake. The group is the subject of a new biography, Trouble Boys. We’ll hear selections from the band’s releases as well as some pre and post musical projects from the band members.

Saturday, February 27

Ritchie Blackmore is one of the unsung heroes of the electric guitar. From his work with Deep Purple to Rainbow and beyond, Blackmore has inspired generations of musicians with his unique approach to the instrument. We’ll hear selections from a variety of releases featuring his playing on this episode of the show.
