Plus new music from Dee Dee Bridgewater, the Wayne Wallace Latin Jazz Quintet, and Bob McChesney – and more highlights from September featured artist John Coltrane, including part one of a two-part Jazz Profiles special in hour two of the show.
Night Train celebrates the birthday of Cannonball Adderley with music he did with September featured artist John Coltrane – including selections from Kind of Blue and Cannonball & Coltrane. Plus Coltrane covers from McCoy Tyner and Conrad Herwig, and new music from tenor saxophonist Steve Kaldestad, bassist Lee Smith, and vocalist Giacomo Gates.
Night Train remembers B.B. King on his 90th birthday; celebrates birthdays of guitarist Charlie Byrd, saxophonist Hamiet Bluiett, and vocalese great Jon Hendricks; highlights new music from vocalist Carol Welsman, songwriter and singer Lorraine Feather, and organist Mike LeDonne with his Groover Quartet; and continues with more music from John Coltrane for the September feature – this time with music he did with the Miles Davis Quintet and on his classic Blue Train album.
Night Train continues with more music from September featured artist John Coltrane, including music from his Lush Life set, an album he did with Thelonious Monk, a new version of his composition “Naima” from the Jeff Benedict Big Big Band, and Steve Davis with his version of Coltrane’s “Village Blues.”
Plus birthday salutes to soul jazz organ favorite Jack McDuff and contemporary drummer Jeff Ballard – and new music from singer Karrin Allyson, guitarist Brad Allen Williams, and trumpeter Terell Stafford doing a tribute to hard bop great Lee Morgan.
