Sister Rosetta Tharpe Centennial, New Music & A Concert Roundup

March 13/15

Crossroads kicks off the Sister Rosetta Tharpe Centennial feature with the first song ever recorded by the gospel blues great, music from a tribute album featuring covers of her classic tunes, gospel blues from the Slide Brothers presented by Robert Randolph, and in hour two, a Tharpe special with music and a conversation with Tharpe biographer Gayle Wald.

Plus new music from the Balkun Brothers and Freddy King’s Brother Benny Turner, and selections from several blues acts with regional concerts in the coming week.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
