Ringing in 2015 With The Best of 2014

Thursday, January 1: Listen for selections from Monster Movie, the latest release from Kansas City, Mo.’s The Rainmakers. The band returns to its live roots for this collection of songs about life in the United States in 2014, plus selections from Where The Woodbine Twineth, the sophomore release from the Wichita duo Elliot Road.

Friday, January 2: We highlight our Best of 2014 list with selections from Thompson, Robert Plant, Bob Dylan and others.

Saturday, January 3: We remember some of the great musicians who passed in 2014 with music from Jack Bruce, Bobby Womack, The Ramones, The Stooges, and Devo.

Monday, January 5: Listen for selections from Brownout Presents Black Sabbath, the horn-driven salute to the music of Black Sabbath from the Austin, Texas group Brownout, plus music from Bump City, the 1972 album by Tower of Power.

Tuesday, January 6: We’ll hear selections from three Portland, Oregon-based musicians who made our best of 2014 list: Anna Tivel, Kevin Lee Florence, and Jeffrey Martin.

  Wednesday, January 7: Fantastic Guitars is the first collaborative release from Reeves Gabrels (The Cure, David Bowie) and Bill Nelson (Be-Bop Deluxe). We’ll hear selections from that release, featured on our Best of 2014 list, as well as from Sargasso Sea, the 1976 release from guitarists Ralph Towner and John Abercrombie.

Thursday, January 8: Listen for selections from Sturgill Simpson’s widely acclaimed 2014 release Metamodern Sounds in Country Music and This Bluebird Wants Me Dead from Wichita’s own Vehicles.

Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency. He created and hosts the podcast Into Music, which examines musical mentorship and creative approaches to the composition, recording and performance of songs. As a music journalist, his work has appeared in PopMatters, Vox, No Depression and Keyboard Magazine.
