Tonight also begins a week of Newport Jazz Festival concert specials to conclude the August feature celebrating the 60th anniversary of the ‘granddaddy of all jazz fests.’ This evening features the iconoclastic young ensemble, Mostly Other People Do the Killing.

Night Train celebrates the birthday of legendary blues shouter Jimmy Rushing; highlights new music from drummer Jae Sinnett and organist Mike LeDonne; and continues with more music from the Newport Jazz Festival – including fest appearances by Count Basie with Jimmy Rushing, Nina Simone, and in hour two, a full performance from Newport by Crescent City rising star, Trombone Shorty.

Plus more music from the Newport Jazz Festival for the August feature, including Billie Holiday, Lester Young with Count Basie, and in hour two of the show, the full Newport set from singer, saxophonist and rising star Grace Kelly with special guest Phil Woods.

And the show wraps up a month-long celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Newport Jazz Festival with a complete fest performance from genius grant recipient, Guggenheim fellow, and Latin jazz innovator Miguel Zenon.
