Summer, Sluggo!, and strange feelings all this week

Tuesday, June 17: Lazaretto is the second solo album from former White Stripes leader Jack White. The lyrics are inspired by poems, short stories, and plays that White wrote during an aborted college career at Wayne State University in Michigan. White expands upon his signature rough-edged sound and emerges with one of the best recordings of his career. We’ll also hear music from House of Spirits, the latest album from The Fresh and Onlys.

Wednesday, June 18: After releasing two successful solo albums in 1989 and 1990, Bob Mould formed a new band called Sugar and, in 1992, issued one of the quintessential alternative rock albums of the 1990s, Copper Blue. We’ll hear selections from that album on this episode of Strange Currency as well as music from DOG, the 2004 album by the Mike Keneally Band.

Thursday, June 19: Listen for a special episode of Strange Currency as Mike Keneally (Dethklok, Joe Satriani, Frank Zappa) discusses the 2013 reissue of his 1997 album with the band Beer For Dolphins, Sluggo!.

Friday, June 20: It’s the return of “Love Gets Strange” with an entire episode dedicated to the theme of love. This time out: The Big Break Up.

Saturday, June 21: We celebrate the June Solstice with an evening of songs dedicated to the arrival of that most celebrated season with selections from Joe Satriani, X, The Who, Sly & The Family Stone, and others.

Monday, June 23: We’ll hear selections from 7 Cities, the 2013 album by Kansas trio Moreland & Arbuckle and the first to feature drummer Kendall Newby. The record features plenty of the group’s signature roots sounds and adds subtle touches to the blues-based rock of past outings. Plus: Selections from Replacements frontman Paul Westerberg’s 1999 outing Suicaine Gratification. We'll also remember Gerry Goffin, the American songwriter who, along with his ex-wife Carole King, wrote classic songs such as "Up on the Roof," "The Loco-Motion" and "Will You Love Me Tomorrow." Goffin died Thursday, June 19 at the age of 75.

Tuesday, June 24: We celebrate the birthday of British guitar legend Jeff Beck with work from his storied solo career and as a member of The Yardbirds.
