Kansans could be tipping back more locally brewed beer under a bill approved by the Kansas Senate. Democratic Senator Tom Holland says some beer producers have been expanding.
“We do have some microbreweries here in the state of Kansas that are now bumping up against that 30,000 barrel limit,” Holland says.
The bill would double the limit to 60,000 barrels of beer per brewery. The group representing brewers says raising the cap allows the companies to operate more efficiently. Microbreweries currently have to get another license and build another facility if they want to go beyond the 30,000 barrel limit.
The Senate also approved a bill that would allow brewers to produce hard cider.
