Kansas Budget Director To Outline Spending Cuts Thursday
Gov. Sam Brownback’s administration is unveiling $50 million in adjustments to the Kansas budget. As KPR’s Stephen Koranda reports, few details are being offered in advance of this afternoon's news conference.
Governor Brownback’s budget director, Shawn Sullivan, will explain the budget changes in a news conference at the Kansas Statehouse. The plan is likely to include some spending cuts, other savings and shifting money around within the budget. The governor himself won't be on hand, as he's scheduled to be in Wichita.
When lawmakers were working on a final tax deal earlier this year, they included the $50 million spending reduction as a way to help attract votes from conservative Republicans. The legislation leaves responsibility for finding the savings to the governor’s office.
