KBOR Approves 5 Percent Tuition Hike For WSU

The Kansas Board of Regents is raising tuition and fees at state universities this fall, which includes Wichita State University. KMUW’s Carla Eckels reports...

The resident undergraduate rate for tuition and fees ranges from a 2.5 percent increase at Fort Hays State University to a 5.7 percent increase at Kansas State University-Salina.

The increases will provide almost 29 million dollars in additional revenues for the universities in the system.

In-state undergraduates at WSU will see an increase of 4.9 percent-- raising the cost to about 35 hundred dollars a semester for a full-time student. Wade Robinson, Vice President for Campus Life and University Relations says--- the increase will help further strategic goals at Wichita State.

This allowed us to cover some cost increases that were really directed toward salary merit pool increases for faculty and staff in all departments across campus, That was the primary piece that this was going to help with.

Robinson says the increase will ensure that WSU remains competitive --in recruiting and retaining the best faculty and staff. He says the tuition and fees increase will not be used to pay for any resident hall on campus. A bond for those costs will be paid by the students who are living and dining in those facilities.
