A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy is being investigated for alleged excessive use of force during an incident Monday morning.

According to Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter, an officer with nearly 20 years of experience is on administrative leave after being accused of excessive use of force at the Sumner County Jail while preparing an inmate for a trip to Sedgwick County.

The deputy was retrieving the inmate for a court hearing when a Sumner County deputy reported that excessive force was being used. The deputy in question will continue to be on administrative leave as both counties investigate the incident. The male inmate was reportedly not injured.

Easter says the inmate is actually from Sedgwick County but is being housed in Sumner County, which is common practice. Easter says there are more than 170 Sedgwick County inmates who are housed in other counties.
