Derby Looking Forward With Vision Derby 2040 Plan

The City of Derby is hosting Vision Derby 2040 Design Studios this week to gather community input to help create a plan for future growth opportunities.

Derby’s comprehensive development plan was last updated in 2006. The Vision Derby 2040 plan hopes to provide a fresh approach to city advancement by accounting for a changing demographic and evolving community needs.

Dan Squires, Derby’s director of Planning and Engineering, says the city “has been a quality-of-life community for a long time. People want to live here and that’s because we provide the things people want in their community.”

The goal of the Design Studios is to implement the ideas of the community to better attract and retain residents and businesses. The event will be facilitated by city staff and members of RDG Planning and Design.

Squires thinks that community input throughout the planning process is crucial.

“We can’t tailor the future of Derby to the needs of the community if the community doesn’t tell us what they want,” he said.

The following Vision Derby 2040 meetings will take place at The Venue at Madison Avenue Central Park, 512 E. Madison Ave.:

? Tuesday, 4-6 p.m.

? Wednesday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m.

? Thursday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
