PonderThis returns to WAM this fall with evenings of thought-provoking and entertaining spoken-word performances featuring local and regional talent. Spoken Word occupies a central place in African American culture and history. As an art form, particularly in Harlem Renaissance poetry readings with Langston Hughes and others, spoken word evolved as a resonant artistic expression. Today’s spoken word artists pull from blues music, oral tradition, spiritual song, hip-hop, and slam poetry.
