First Friday Openings: A Hidden Place and Art Imitates Kyan's Life
Join us for First Friday on May 1 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM as we celebrate the opening of two powerful new exhibitions!
Enjoy an evening of art, connection, and community, with opportunities to meet the artists, participate in interactive activities, and enjoy light refreshments.
A Hidden Place
Featuring the works of Maggie Garner in collaboration with Autumn Gary and Taiomah Rutledge
A Hidden Place invites visitors to slow down, look deeper, and truly connect. This immersive exhibition encourages participation—every artwork can be touched, and many pieces are interactive, shifting you from viewer to co-creator.
Each work captures a singular place and time, filled with joy, longing, uncertainty, and wonder. In a fast-paced, noisy world, these hidden places remind us that meaning and connection are closer than we think—waiting just beneath the surface.
On view in the Dr. Gail Yearick and Family Gallery
May 1 – June 25
Art Imitates Kyan’s Life
A solo exhibition by Kyan Hackney
Wichita-based artist Kyan Adger Hackney brings portraiture to life through connection and storytelling. Inspired early on by artists like Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh, Kyan has developed a deeply personal practice centered on drawing people from all walks of life.
From friends and community members to transit drivers and public figures like Mayor Lily Wu and Governor Laura Kelly, Kyan captures the essence of his subjects with care and intention. Known for gifting his portraits, his work goes beyond representation—it creates moments of recognition, joy, and human connection.
