In August 1920, a Constitutional Amendment gave women the right to vote, declaring, “the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied on account of sex.” In honor of the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment (slightly delayed due to the pandemic), Celebrating 1920 features work by women artists from the permanent collection. The exhibition spans work made before and after women gained the right to vote, exploring women’s contribution to various art movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. Featuring a broad array of visions, voices, and styles, the exhibition includes works by Rosa Bonheur, Marguerite Zorach, Helen Frankenthaler, Faith Ringgold, Audrey Flack, Kara Walker, Gail Albert-Halaban, and others. Join the Wichita Art Museum and the League of Women Voters Wichita Metro in commemorating women’s suffrage.
