At Play Theatre Roundup: 10.29.12

A non-Shakesperian Shakesperian comedy, a brief moment with painter Mark Rothko, and a white Christmas:

Wichita Community Theatre closes out its run of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. The production ends Sunday, November 4 with performances Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 7 p.m.

On the horizon for November at Wichita Center For The Arts Red by John Logan, November 14 - 18, 2012. Mark Rothko is in his New York studio in 1958-9, painting a group of murals for the expensive and exclusive Four Seasons restaurant. He gives orders to his assistant, Ken, as Mark mixes the paints, makes the frames, and paints the canvases. Ken, however, brashly questions Rothko’s theories of art and his acceding to work on such a commercial project. Directed by John Boldenow and Danette Baker.

Mosley Street Melodrama will open its 15th anniversary season with Shakespeare’s MacBethlehem Christmas or Wherefore Art Thou Saint Nick? on November 8. Written by Tom Frye, the show will run through December 30 except for the November 22, December 24 and 25.

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas opens November 9 at Crown Uptown Theatre. A musical that captures the essence of the classic American Christmas, White Christmas is a timeless favorite for audiences young and old alike. The show follows veteran song-and-dance duo Bob Wallace and Phil Davis as they tag along with a pair of beautiful singing sisters to an idyllic Christmas show in snowy Vermont. The show is based on the Paramount Pictures 1954 film of the same name, with a libretto by David Ives and Paul Blake and music and lyrics by Irving Berlin.
