Night Train begins a week long tribute to Bobby Hutcherson, one of the legends of jazz vibes, who passed away last week. Tonight it’s one of his classic compositions, “Little B’s Poem,” music from his groundbreaking early work on Blue Note and later work on the Landmark label, and appearances with Ray Barretto, McCoy Tyner, and the Timeless All-Stars. Plus more music from August featured artist Kenny Burrel, and in celebration of Debussy’s birthday – jazz versions of some of his most famous compositions and other works that bring together jazz and classical influences.

There’s also music for the birthdays of legendary saxophonist Wayne Shorter (including a special in hour two featuring music he did with hard bop master Lee Morgan), guitarist Pat Martino, bassist Charles Fambrough, vibes player Mike Freeman, and trombonist Micheal Dease – and more music from August featured artist Kenny Burrell, playing with both Paul Chambers and Grover Washington, Jr.
