Recently released data shows U.S. driving is up 3.3 percent for the first six months of 2016, the number is even higher in Kansas.

Travel on the state highway system in Kansas is up 3.6 percent over where it was in 2015.

Ann Williamson with the Kansas Department of Transportation says it’s a good sign for travelers.

"Right now we’re thinking that the fuel prices are lower than they were a year ago, and overall the economy is better than it was," Williamson says. "Both reasons that encourage traveling in Kansas. Kansas also has benefited from being in the middle of the country and having increased national travel from both passenger and freight vehicles."

Traveling through Kansas has been rising steadily the past few years, setting records in 2014 and in 2015 when 31 billion miles were driven.
