Restaurant Review: MMM Sandwiches

When you work in a restaurant, sometimes the only thing you want to eat is something that you, yourself, did not prepare. You could be surrounded by delicious food all day long and desire none of it. I know the feeling well.

Sometimes I’ll go out and get pizza or tacos for my staff, just for a change of pace. I did that yesterday, when I went out to check on my friends at MMM Sandwiches, a food truck serving… sandwiches. Really good sandwiches. Sandwiches we didn’t make ourselves. I ordered one of everything and got an appetizer just for kicks.

We had the ICT Turkey, which owner and chief sandwich man Mikey Noyes says is his best seller. It was stuffed with turkey and bacon with a roasted garlic ranch sauce, tomatoes, and spring greens on ciabatta. It was flavorful and smoky and lots of customers were ordering it. We also tried the veggie sandwich, with melted cheddar, roasted mushrooms, green beans, peppers and onions. It was delicious. Mikey smokes his own pulled pork, and that sandwich was outstanding—rich, meaty, tart with homemade BBQ sauce, and cheesy.

I loved the Hipster, a turkey-black pepper cream cheese-sriracha-fresh basil-beansprout monster of a sandwich that was bright and spicy. The chicken satay skewers with peanut sauce were tender and mild, with a gentle kick. If you are lucky, some mornings they serve some of the best biscuits and gravy in town.

MMM Sandwiches roll around the city, and post their locations on Facebook and, sometimes, on Twitter. They will be at the Food Truck Rally this Saturday, October 6, from 4 to 7 at Douglas and Oliver.
