Shocker fans are gearing up to fill Wichita State’s Koch Arena as part of ESPN’s basketball show called “College GameDay."
The sports network is bringing their cameras to WSU to broadcast live on Saturday morning beginning at 10am.
KMUW’s Carla Eckels speaks with WSU Athletic Director Eric Sexton about the significance of the event…
ESPN will set up their pre-game show inside WSU’s Koch Arena. The network’s energetic broadcast team will discuss the latest happenings in college basketball including the afternoon Missouri Valley Championship game between 11th ranked Wichita State and 10th ranked Northern Iowa.
WSU Athletic Director Eric Sexton says Wichita and the Shocker Nation has been chosen to host the morning segment of GameDay.
"It will be an opportunity for the world, the U.S., to see what Wichita State is about and the commitment to excellence in our great fan base," he says.
Sexton says Koch Arena should be filled with 10,500 Shocker fans in the morning as well as during the afternoon game.
"So we want to encourage everybody to come out, support, see, and to be a part of the Shocker Nation," he says. "(We want) ESPN and the world to see what a great committed community we have to support great young men trying to achieve their dreams."
All Shocker fans will be asked to clear the arena after the morning show. The doors will reopen prior to the game at 1pm, for ticket holders. Sexton says the game itself has been sold out for months.
