Melba Liston, Mark Egan, Gerry Gibbs & Soul Jazz + Best of ‘24 FEATURED ALBUMS OF THE WEEK: Dave Stryker – Stryker with Strings Goes to the Movies & Peter Erskine – Vienna to Hollywood

Monday 1.13.25

Night Train has a double bill for the Featured New Releases of the Week – albums from guitarist Dave Stryker and drummer Peter Erskine that both feature music from movies. We also continue the January Feature looking back at the year in jazz with Grammy-nominee Chucho Valdes, and remembrances of Quincy Jones, Nikki Giovanni, and Emporia-native Jack Mouse. Plus a birthday celebration for trombonist and arranger Melba Liston, including a special in hour two of the show.

Tuesday 1.14.25

Night Train marks the birthday of bassist Mark Egan (with Pat Metheny and Karl Latham in hour one, and in a concert special with Larry Coryell and Paul Wertico in hour two), remembers Calvin Keys and Quincy Jones who passed away in 2024, and continues with more movie music from Featured Albums of the Week from Dave Stryker and Peter Erskine.

Wednesday 1.15.25

Night Train kicks off the show tonight with a Kenny Dorham classic recorded on this date in 1961. We also mark birthdays of drummers Gene Krupa and Gerry Gibbs (featured in a concert special in hour two of the show), continue the January Feature with music from Papa John DeFrancesco, Blue Moods and Snorre Kirk, and highlight more movie music from Dave Stryker and Peter Erskine – our Featured New Releases of the Week.

Thursday 1.16.25

SPECIAL: It’s Soul Jazz Night tonight on the Night Train, with music from soul jazz masters Stanley Turrentine, Jimmy Ponder, Arnett Cobb, Les McCann & Eddie Harris, and Dr. Lonnie Smith; and contemporary soul jazz sounds from Jim Alfredson, the Towner Galaher Organ Trio and Dan Trudell.
