Luther Allison, New Orleans Tributes & New Blues Releases

August 9/11

Crossroads kicks off the August feature remembering Luther Allison, legendary Chicago blues guitarist and singer, on the 80th anniversary of his birth, along with music from his son Bernard Allison.

Throughout the month Crossroads also pays tribute to a number of Crescent City artists who passed away recently – Art Neville, Dr. John, Dave Bartholomew and Spencer Bohren.

This visit to the Crossroads includes early and comeback, live and studio recordings from Luther Allison, along with several tracks from Bernard; a tribute to Dave Bartholomew’s work with Fats Domino including several new Fats tribute releases; early Art Neville on Specialty Records plus music he did with the Meters and Neville Brothers; and Dr. John solo and with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux.

Plus new music from Nick Moss, Mitch Woods, George Benson, Big Joe & the Dynaflows, Robin Trower, Kenny ‘Beedy Eyes’ Smith, Dwayne Dopsie, Keb’ Mo’ and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
