Podcasts: How To Listen

WHERE CAN I LISTEN TO THE KMUW PODCASTS?

If you have a smartphone, the most convenient way is to listen on an app, like Apple Podcasts, Google Play, NPR One, or Stitcher.

These and other podcast players allow you to “subscribe” to different podcasts so that you will be notified every time a new episode is released.

You can also listen to the our podcasts on your computer.

ARE PODCASTS FREE? IF SO, WHY DO I HAVE TO ‘SUBSCRIBE’?

The majority of podcasts are free to listen. The word “subscribe” simply means that you will be getting notified about new episodes of a podcast, or you can choose to have them automatically downloaded to your phone.

HOW DO I SUBSCRIBE TO A PODCAST?

ON YOUR APPLE DEVICE:

Search for our podcasts by name (Marginalia, Cooking With Fire, Musical Space, You're Saying It Wrong) in your Apple Podcasts app. Tap the link to open the podcast you'd like to hear.

Once you have the show open in the app, tap the “Subscribe” button to have new episodes delivered to your device as soon as they’re available. Subscribing is totally free. Or, if you’d prefer not to receive every episode automatically, simply tap the name of an episode that interest you. You can stream the episode using your WiFi/data, or tap the plus sight and then the download icon to save the episode to your device for offline listening. This post has more helpful guidance.

Search for our podcasts by name (Marginalia, Cooking With Fire, Musical Space, You're Saying It Wrong) in your Google Play Music app. Tap the link to open the podcast you'd like to hear.

Once you have the show open in the app, tap the “Subscribe” button to have new episodes delivered to your device as soon as they’re available. Subscribing is totally free. NPR One is a smartphone app that connects you to a stream of public radio news, stories – and, you guessed it, podcasts! – from around the world and your own backyard. Learn more and download the app to your device.

Search for one of our podcasts (Marginalia, Cooking With Fire, Musical Space, You're Saying It Wrong) on your NPR One app (by tapping the magnifying glass in the top corner).

Once you have the show open in the app, tap the “+” (plus) sign and enable “follow this show” and “enable new episode notifications.” You’ll know they are enabled when both scroll bars are blue in color.

ON STITCHER:

There’s a Stitcher app for iOS, Android, desktop, auto, and smart speakers Amazon Echo and Sonos. Learn more and download the app.

Tap on any of these specific links--Marginalia, Cooking With Fire, Musical Space, You're Saying It Wrong--to open the appropriate podcast in your Stitcher app.

Once you have the show open, tap the “+” to follow the show.
