New Month/New Music Time – New Blues Releases

Friday October 4, and Sunday, October 6

It’s “New Month/New Music” time as Crossroads teams up with Global Village and Strange Currency at the beginning of every month to feature the best in new blues releases.

Among the highlights this time:

  • Blues harmonica player and sly songwriter Rick Estrin & the Nightcats
  • Contemporary Chicago bluesman Toronzo Cannon
  • Cornetist, poet and former Roomful of Blues member Al Basile
  • Canadian bluesman Myles Goodwin with the second in his all-star Friends series
  • Soul blues shouter and pianist Beth Hart
  • Kansas City favorite Samantha Fish making her debut on Rounder Records
  • Milwaukee blues favorites, the Altered Five Blues Band
  • ‘70s secular gospel rarities on The Time for Peace Is Now
  • And Finland’s roots blues group the Wentus Blues Band with special guest Duke Robillard.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
