A trio of birthdays to celebrate tonight on the Night Train – drummer Joey Baron (with Bill Frisell, Steve Kuhn, Enrico Pieranunzi, and John Abercrombie), saxophonist Don Lanphere, and pianist, producer, arranger, film and television score creater, and label cofounder Dave Grusin. Plus vocalese pioneer King Pleasure, and new music from Diana Krall, Louis Hayes (in a tribute to Horace Silver), Chick Corea and more.

Night Train highlights tribute albums (Roseanna Vitro with the music of Clare Fischer, Laurie Antonioli’s celebration of Joni Mitchell, the Classical Jazz Quartet celebrating Bach, and the Dave Liebman Big Band playing the music of Wayne Shorter) along with a number of great jazz saxophonists - including John Coltrane, Sonny Rollin, Stan Getz, Hank Crawford, and Cannonball Adderley.

Night Train marks birthdays of composer Richard Rodgers and also of singer Tierney Sutton (doing Richard Rodger songs and also featured in a special in hour two of the show). Plus more music from Dave Lambert (with Lambert, Hendricks & Ross) for his centennial birthday, and new music from singer Mark Murphy (a previously unreleased live performance), pianist and composer Antonio Adolfo (with a Brazilian twist on the music of Wayne Shorter), and guitarist Doug MacDonald (with a salute to jazz composers).

Night Train highlights some contemporary ‘gypsy jazz’ inspired by Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club of France, tonight, including the latest from Pearl Django and Stephane Wrembel, as well as selections from Quartet San Francisco, Tchavolo Schmitt and more. And, to wrap up the Dave Lambert centennial birthday and vocalese feature – solo projects from Dave Lambert, Jon Hendricks, and Annie Ross, who rose to fame as part of the pioneering vocalese combo of Lambert Hendricks and Ross.
