Night Train highlights contemporary jazz organ players tonight – including Mike LeDonne, Ben Paterson, Brian Charette, Jared Gold, Pat Bianchi and more. Plus trumpet legend Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison with the Basie Alumni lineup and as a co-leader on an album with Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, a Roy Haynes tribute to Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan revisiting Birth of the Cool and the duos of Charlie Haden/Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Pat Metheny/Brad Mehldau.

Night Train marks birthdays of drummer Dannie Richmond (best known for his two+ decades of work with Charles Mingus), and three NEA Jazz Masters, trombonist Curtis Fuller and pianists Barry Harris and Eddie Palmieri. (Palmieri is also featured tonight on Global Village and in a special conversation that was recorded after the announcement of his NEA Jazz Masters award in hour two of Night Train tonight). Also in store – new music from the Phil Norman Tentet, Sun Ra & his Arkestra, the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble and Miami saxophonist Tom McCormick.
