Night Train marks birthdays of two acclaimed pianists George Cables (with music from his new Cables Songbook album) and Ellis Marsalis (including a special in hour two of the show). Plus music from November featured artist Lou Donaldson and a cover of one of his classic compositions by Texas bluesman Clarence ‘Gatemouth’ Brown, and a reissue of Milt Jackson’s classic Sunflower album.

Night Train highlights the jazz piano trio – including music from the hit Concert by the Sea album from Erroll Garner, young  phenom Joey Alexander, and contemporary trio leaders like Kenny Werner, Lafayette Harris, Jr., George Cables, Gerry Gibbs, and Mitchel Forman. Plus music from John Coltrane and also Coltrane band mates McCoy Tyner, Red Garland, and Bill Evans in a trio setting.

Wednesday 11.16.16

Night Train continues a salute this week to bassist Bob Cranshaw, tonight with music from the artist he worked with for five decades – acclaimed saxophonist Sonny Rollins. Plus birthday celebrations for singer Diana Krall, drummer Rick Hollander, and pianist Joe Alterman, and previews of several concerts with jazz vocalists coming up in the next few days.

Night Train wraps up its week-long remembrance of jazz bassist Bob Cranshaw (playing with Milt Jackson and Grant Green) and also, to singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, who passed away last week, with jazz versions of his songs, music from his last album, and a special in hour two of the show. Plus music from November featured artist Lou Donaldson and new music from Steve Turre.
