Night Train highlights more from September featured artist John Coltrane – including music from his classic album, My Favorite Things, and new releases with Coltrane tributes from Eric Alexander, Heads of State, the Jeff Benedict Big Big Band, and the Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet.

Tuesday 9.29.15

Night Train celebrates International Coffee Day with some caffeinated jazz from Bob Dorough, Marian McPartland and Duke Ellington. Plus more music from John Coltrane, including selections he did with Johnny Hartman, Miles Davis and Duke Ellington – and new music from Cecile McLorin Salvant, Tony Bennett with Bill Charlap, Harry Allen, Mark Winkler, and Gilad Hekselman.

Wednesday 9.30.15

Jazz guitar is the focus tonight on the Night Train with music from Jimmy Ponder, Jim Hall with Pat Metheny, Romero Lubambo, Bob Devos, the John Abercrombie Quartet, Leni Stern and Grant Green. Plus guitarist Peter Bernstein with the Coltrane classic, “Wise One,” and pianist McCoy Tyner – a member of Coltrane’s ‘classic quartet,’ for the September Coltrane feature.

Thursday 10.1.15

Night Train kicks off the October feature celebrating the centennial birthday of trumpeter Harry ‘Sweets’ Edison with music he did with both Benny Carter and Lester Young, and a Jazz Profiles special in hour two of the show about his life and music. Plus a birthday salute to acclaimed bassist Dave Holland and new music from the Gerry Gibbs Thrasher Dream Trio with Ron Carter, Kenny Barron and special guest Cassandra Wilson.
