A Mardi Gras Focus on Crescent City Jazz, Featured Artist Pat Metheny

Night Train explores some jazz with international influences tonight – including music from Lebanese oud player Rabih Abou-Khalil, African guitarist Lionel Loueke, flamenco-jazz trumpeter Greg Duncan, the Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet and the Bobby Matos Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble. Plus, some “good vibes” from vibraphonists Gary Burton, Joe Locke, Stefon Harris and Christian Tamburr.

It’s Mardi Gras time as Night Train heads to New Orleans for some great Crescent City jazz – including music from Jason Marsalis (born on this date), Louis Armstong, Doc Cheatham with Nicholas Payton, Dr. Michael White, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Grammy-nominated Hot 8 Brass Band, and in hour two, a special performance from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

*Global Village also celebrates Mardi Gras tonight.

Night Train highlights guitarists tonight – including March featured artist Pat Metheny, Pat Martino, George Benson (from his debut as leader), the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet (from their Guitar Heroes tribute album), Frank Potenza’s salute to Joe Pass and new albums from Calvin Keys and Sheryl Bailey.

Tonight on the Night Train, music from March featured artist Pat Metheny reunited with Gary Burton on the Like Minds album, Tierney Sutton with the Turtle Island Quartet, and birthday salutes to guitar legend Wes Montgomery, singer Flora Purim, and the King of Western Swing, Bob Wills.
