Global Village Kicks Off February With Birthdays, Tributes And "New Month/New Music"

Monday  February 3

Global Village kicks off the February feature of music from acclaimed African singer and activist Angelique Kidjo with music from her new album, Eve, and from her Grammy-winning release, Djin Djin. Plus music from one of two albums to take home the World Music Grammy this year, Savor Flamenco from the Gipsy Kings, and the winner for Regional Roots Music Album, Dockside Sessions from Terrance Simien & the Zydeco Experience.

Tuesday  February 4

SPECIAL:  With the recent passing of Pete Seeger and the announcement of Lifetime Achievement Awards for Celtic group Clannad, and English folk veteran Martin Carthy, Global Village throws a little hootenanny to honor their achievements. Along with music from those artists, the show features music from Seeger’s friend Woody Guthrie, music of  Bob Dylan and more in a celebration of great artists and traditional sounds from several different corners of the globe.

Wednesday February 5

Global Village pays a visit to Europe for music from Sicily (from Asteriskos), Spain (with acclaimed Galician group, Milladoiro), France ( for the 40th anniversary album from Bratsch), England (with folk rock cult favorite John Martyn) and Ireland (the first solo album from Cathy Jordan, singer with the popular traditional Irish group, Dervish). Plus a few quick detours – to South Africa for a classic from Paul Simon’s Graceland, and to Brazil for the Latin Grammy nominated album Brasilianos 3 (from Brazilian mandolin master, Hamilton de Holanda).
