Westar To Help Customers With Energy Assistance Program

Westar Energy

Westar Energy advisers will be in Wichita Wednesday as part of an outreach program that helps low income Kansans fill out applications for assistance with home energy costs.

The Low-Income Energy Assistance Program or (LIEAP) is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their utility bills by providing a one-time per year benefit.

Westar Energy spokesperson Gina Penzig says advisers are helping customers in several cities in Kansas complete the application process.

“We found that some customers are getting declined for this assistance just because their application is incomplete or they don't have the required documents,” says Penzig. "Our experts are going to be out there to help them make sure that they aren't turned down for this assistance on a technicality."

A Westar Energy representative will be available at Wichita's Northeast Senior Center Wednesday from 9 am until 4 pm. Applications will be accepted through March 29. More information is available at westarenergy.com/lieap.
