New Urgent Care Center To Open At Wichita State In 2020

SJCF Architecture

Wesley Healthcare is opening a new urgent care center on the campus of Wichita State University in 2020.

Wichita State, the Greater Wichita YMCA and Wesley Healthcare announced their partnership on Thursday. Wesley Healthcare is investing $3 million in the new YMCA building being built on Wichita State's campus. The new building will house the Wesley Healthcare Urgent Care Center.

"Wesley Healthcare, Wichita State and the YMCA all have similar missions," said Allen Poston, a spokesman for Wesley Healthcare. "That's to provide better health for the people in Wichita, to educate the people in Wichita, to provide information and to give resources."

According to Wichita State, no student fees or tuition will go toward the center.

The center will be open for anyone to use, including the surrounding community, students and staff.

Students currently receive some medical care from Student Health Services, but the service is not open for staff and the hours are limited. The urgent care center will have extended and weekend hours. It will also provide radiology and X-ray equipment, which Student Health Services lack.

"When we are seeing a student that needs an X-ray we can partner with Wesley," said Camille Childers, the director of Student Health Services. "That's going to be an extreme advantage for students."

The YMCA that the center will be located in is planned to open in early 2020.
