Report: Kansas One Of Few States To Cut Higher Ed Funding
A national advocacy organization says Kansas is one of only a handful of states that cut funding for higher education this year.
The recently passed two-year Kansas budget includes nearly $50 million in higher education cuts, while the majority of states actually increased or maintained spending.
The American Association of State Colleges and Universities compiled the funding list. Information wasn’t available for every state, but of the 48 states included, only six cut college and university funding.
Kansas is reducing university spending by more than 3 percent. The largest cut came in Louisiana, with a 17 percent reduction.
The survey shows 37 states increased education funding and five states left funding flat. The report notes that climbing state revenues across the country are helping push the funding increases.
